The Creator Support Program in the field of short animation
Supported by a subsidy from the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan, the Creator Support Fund was established within the Japan Arts Council. In 2024, the Creator Support Program was launched to nurture emerging creators who will shape the future of the arts by supporting their development and creative endeavors.
In the field of short animation, the Creator Support Program has been implemented by CG-ARTS (the Computer Graphic Arts Society) under commission from the Japan Arts Council, operating under the title “New Way, New World: Program for Connecting Japanese Animators to the World (abbreviated as NeW NeW).”
This program targets promising Japanese short animation creators who are highly motivated to engage in international outreach and demonstrate strong potential for global success. It offers comprehensive support—from creative development to overseas promotion—through specific programs designed to accomplish its goals over a three-year period, within an approximately five-year framework.
Key Activities of NeW NeW
Support and Development of Creators
NeW NeW supports promising short animation creators by facilitating their participation in domestic and international film festivals, providing travel assistance and networking opportunities. Selected creators through open calls receive tailored training programs to refine their new project ideas. Additionally, pitching opportunities at international film festivals are offered to help them connect with global partners.
Providing the Latest Information via Website and Educational Programs
NeW NeW promotes talented Japanese creators internationally through an artist database featuring selected works and interviews ( in Japanese and English) by Japanese short animation creators. Our educational program offers technical guidance for skill improvement and insights into global trends for creators and partners in Japan. We also archive and publish these materials on our website.
We invite leading international professionals to Japan for networking tours that includes visits to creators, studios, film festivals, and educational institutions. These visits foster direct connections for future collaborations.
